A unique cradle of Okinawan flora and fauna

Yanbaru Park

The northern part of the island: mountains covered with tropical forests and shrouded in a haze of fluffy clouds. This is Yanbaru Park

In the Yanbaru National Park, created in 2016, some of the last representatives of endemic species of flora and fauna, characteristic only for this area, have been preserved. This is the territory of the subtropical forest, in which in 1945 the American-Japanese military actions took place.

More than 4,000 species live here, of which 188 species are included in the Okinawa Red Book (the most famous of them are Okinawan woodpeckers, black-throated nightingale, secretive frog, Ryukyu rat). By the way, the Okinawan woodpecker is in danger of complete extinction due to the negative impact of the American low-flying "Osprey" convertibles.
